Members of the public are invited to attend the meeting in person or view and listen to the meeting via simultaneous webcasting on the Internet, and may view an archived version approximately two days after the meeting. Public participation: The public will be invited by the co-chairs to offer comments on agenda action items. General comments on the work of the MLPA SAT, not directed to specific agenda items, will be taken after lunch at approximately 1:30 p.m. Note that the general comment period is for public comment specific to the MLPA SAT; comments related to the regional stakeholder group, task force or other MLPA Initiative activities should be directed to those bodies or MLPA staff.

Meeting Objectives

* Welcome MLPA Master Plan Science Advisory Team (SAT) members for the MLPA South Coast Study Region
* Potentially adopt list of species likely to benefit for the MLPA North Central Coast Study Region (NCCSR)
* Potentially adopt the Methods Used to Evaluate MPA Proposals in the North Central Coast Study Region
* Potentially adopt SAT operating principles and select SAT chair(s)
* Discuss biogeography in the SCSR
* Receive report from modeling work group and discuss ideas for future study regions
* Discuss recommendations for considering water quality for marine protected area (MPA) planning
* Discuss initial south coast science questions and issues
* Identify SAT work groups to begin addressing science questions
* Discuss and potentially adopt criteria for handling external data and information
* Thank you and farewell to the SAT members for the NCCSR

4.MLPA South Coast Study Region (SCSR)

1. Orientation, discuss and potentially adopt SAT operating principles, and select SCSR SAT chair(s)
2. Review and discuss MPA evaluation criteria and methods
3. Present and discuss preliminary evaluation of SCSR MPAs
4. Present and discuss biogeographic regions in the SCSR
5. Present and discuss ???key and unique' habitats
6. Review draft SCSR list of species likely to benefit from MPAs
7. Discuss SAT review/contributions to the SCSR regional profile

5.NCCSR SAT Modeling Work Group
A. Overview of EDOM Model (what it is and does)
B. Overview of UCD Model (what it is and does)
C. Receive update from the modeling work group and discuss any recommended changes and uses of models in SCSR
D. Discuss oceanographic workshop

6.NCCSR SAT Water Quality Work Group
A. Introduction to water quality issues and MPA planning
B. Discuss potential guidelines for future regional stakeholder groups for considering water quality with MPA planning

7.SCSR science questions
A. Discuss initial list of science questions for the SCSR and information gathered to date
B. Identify/confirm work groups for specific south coast science questions
C. Discuss and potentially adopt criteria for handling external data and information
